Snuck a peek just now and noticed the latest dumbass mudfest. Well, this is just a board and anything goes, even long threads about rectums. So, not surprising. Much ado about nothing. Except:

What kid of torqued me was this: a guy who posts frequently--generally good stuff--not always--chooses--maybe not wiserly--to note someone "borrowed" an amusing story about Cornell, and he gets flamed for it.. Okay--he didn't have to post that criticism. But his point is proven on the next post by dstanme. Here, the guy gives us another funny piece on "divorce," but he quotes it. Still funny. Still a good read.

My point? First time around this orchiddoctor guy comments about plagiarism, and he gets viscious responses from this Ssag guy. Each time the doc backs down, Ssag's fangs get longer, his bark meaner. He even shows us some clever sarcasm with his John Lennon quote. Okay, so what. Second
time around, our original poster quotes his material as I said--still funny. Here is Ssag's response this time (and I quote):

" Funny at least you give credit where credit was due...the author."

Whoa, buddy. Now it's politically correct to use quotes, but when the doc mentioned it, you went ballistic? Which is it?

Two points--maybe three.

You all take yourselves way to seriously.
You ought to think before you respond.
Mr. Ssag, you ought to apologize if you now embrace what you though was so heinous as to cause you to lose control. And you ought to apologize for increasing your hostile invective more and more as the doc backed down more and more.

The doc's post wasn't worth any sort of response. To jump right in and start a street fight--to jump someone in an alleyway over such a trivial statement--that reflects your (Ssag)inability to control your temper and makes you look like a jerk.

Just remember, if you choose to fight in the open, you have a gallery of spectators watching you. If you take the bait, you look real dumb wriggling on the line.

And remember this always:

"Just tell her that Pigpen said it was okay."

I don't have any problem with some high spirited verbal jousting (and the occasional bruised ego that comes with it), but sometimes it just gets to the point where it IS like a chat room around here, the same 4-5 names (and no I'm not going to say them because who they are isn't the point, but if you think I'm talking about you I probably am) making snarky little comments in a bitch-fest that goes halfway down the goddamn page, followed the next day by another half page of the same folks falling all over themselves sort of half-apologizing, but not really, because I didn't mean to offend, but I meant what I said, and I would never engage in a personal attack except when I’m attacking you, etc...it really is a drag.

Of course, the flip side is that any time someone pipes up objecting to this sort of thing, there's a quick move to lynch him/her up for trying to impose rules, being judgmental (whatever the hell that means), advocating censorship, and what have you. It would appear this mentality comes in a large part from the idea that some posters “own” the forum.

What’s funny, though, is that some of the thinnest skins are worn by those who carry the “freedom of expression” banner the highest.

Just my 2 cents.

Wowser.... I was kidding but I guess it did not come off as such when I said "at least you credited the author" it was obviously a poor attempt at humor that was misunderstood. I do understand how the connection was made though. I bash Doc for slamming the guy who made a silly innocent mistake when he posted an article about 5-7-77 and I even go on and try to defend him because I thought it was lame for Doc to have done that to him. And then I go and make a cooment about the same issue, I can see it but I also can see I made my punchline w/o the normal LOL or JK that I should have.

Bad joke. BTW I know I am a dick no need to reinforce it. Funny and me included how we love the name calling when we are afar from each other.

I'm a newbie to writing on the forum but I've lurked for years (not because I thought there was anything wrong with the forum but because I had psychic constipation issues (which I think I've worked out!)) and as an unbiased observer I've seen the forum evolve as a family does. In the UK we have a tv soap called coronation street where the characters argue almost all the time and it can be very funny and thats what some of these threads remind me of. I loved the conspiracy episode. Please don't think I'm being patronising because I think the forum is becoming more inclusive and I look forward to that inclusiveness embracing cultural and genderal (eh?) diversity. My 2p. (about 4 cents at current rates) ps to BlueMtMan I agree that its fiddly when you want to check a thread from two days ago but I just click on any of the names and it takes me somewhere interesting funny sad. And I also miss some of the folks who take a sabbatical from time to time but thats their business.

Point of post aside, its good to see yet another new name. I guess that can be seen as the only good thing to come out of the recent bombastic exchanges here: previously unpublished readers are getting so pissed off at the rest of us (and oftentimes we deserve it) that they are feeling the need to make themselves heard. My only hope that the intial feeling of disgust is replaced by a willingness to take part in substantive discussions, which do still pop up here from time to time.

I echo these sentiments. I posted two things I stumbled upon which made me laugh. Both were posted on the net. Both made me laugh. Both were ridiculous. Ridiculous things make me laugh. I hoped others might laugh. Anyone seeing a pattern here???

Its hard to imagine some of these people as heads, must have been after my time on the scene...

dstanme

PS the sites where I found those things gave no indication of authors.

PPS I just figured Ssag was a dick this morning. I work with teenagers so I pretty much ignore rude remarks.

PPPS Those of you who laughed, I'm glad.

This forum has shifted rather significantly in the past few months. Less and less Dead discussion, more and more personal chat room discussions. Mostly I just ignore the chat room. Not my cup-o-tea, not why I log in. I have learned a lot by mainly lurking, but the nuggets are growing fewer and fewer. Lots of knowlegable folks have walked away. In order to comment you almost have to post in real time. Can't tell you how many times I come in for my daily read and something I'd like to comment about has been pushed way down the list. Why bother.

It seems that those of you who are willing and able to be in the chat room pretty much dominate the board. Not your fault, just the way this board is designed. However, the nastiness that has been growing has reached almost to the level it was after the soundboards were pulled. The difference is many of you are directing that shit at each other. It is ashamed that too many are sitting behind their keyboards and feeling embolded to say things you would not say to each other in person.

The only thing I ask that you try your best to avoid hijacking a thread and turning it into your chatroom.

"...too many are sitting behind their keyboards and feeling embolded to say things you would not say to each other in person"
I cannot speak for any one else, but I have never posted one thing which I would not happily say directly to them face to face. Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I am extremely tired of this subject. I think we know now that many of you are rather disgusted with how this forum has developed recently. So let's accept that as fact and move on. However, if you don't agree with me, by all means continue, I would never presume to tell anyone what is right or wrong, its all just opinions afterall and we are all entitled to them.

Most of the special athlete's I know would not lower themselves to some of these pissing matches and they certainly wouldn't reproduce a picture or your proud moment laced with a derogatory comment.

as hideously offensive as that is (and i really do have issues that kinda humor sometimes) - i almost fell off my chair laughing at that one, especially in considering the whole drama going on here.

damn i feel guilty over literally laughing out loud over that - sorry

(still laughing though - god forgive me)

it was only meant to draw a point toward the current meandering of the board. i to am not usually one for that type of "sensitive" humor...but with the present state of things it seemed to fit quite perfect.

say a hail mary or 2 before bed and you shall be forgiven.
